The 58th winner of the St Leger, held on Tuesday 20th September 1831 over 1 mile 6 furlongs and 132 yards of Town Moor, was Chorister, a bay colt by Lottery out of a dam by Chorus, owned by Lord Cleveland. The early pace was set by Chancellor who led until the Red House, at which point La Fille Mal Gardee came to the front. At the furlong pole she was headed by Th Saddler who looked all over the winner until a late challenge was mounted by Chorister who got up by a head in 3 minutes 24 seconds.
